2026 Content and Social Engagement Intern
Dates of employment: May 11, 2026 - August 8, 2026 (subject to change)
Gain hands-on experience at a marine science field station while learning valuable technical and interpersonal skills. The Content and Social Engagement Intern is immersed in the daily operations of the Chincoteague Bay Field Station, where they collect, organize, and post social media content. Marketing and Media Interns will also develop leadership skills as they support college students as resident advisors. Internships occur during our four summer sessions, beginning one week before and ending after summer sessions. The intern will work three out of the four sessions and may take a course during their session off.
Duties
The Content and Social Engagement Intern will be immersed in U&R programming, assisting U&R staff with field excursions to collect marketing content, and leading and supporting the college community. They will also have the opportunity to support other CBFS programming, such as summer camps. The Content and Social Engagement Intern will be responsible for planning and executing college activities and events throughout the summer with assistance from other U&R staff. Interns will also be responsible for designing, implementing, and reporting on an original, relevant media project such as a newsletter, hype video, or other relevant marketing product. The duties of the Content and Social Engagement Intern are split into three categories:
Content Collection and Distribution, Program Maintenance, and Residential.
● Content Collection and Distribution
o Take photos and videos of CBFS programming using Nikon, GoPro, and phone cameras
o Maintain and revitalize CBFS Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook accounts while showcasing CBFS values and themes
o Conduct interviews with CBFS participants, faculty, and staff for social media and website content
o Update CBFS website, blog, newsletter as needed
● Program Maintenance (PGM)
o Assist with office tasks as needed
o Maintain and prepare labs for faculty and summer programs
o Assist in the field with summer courses when needed
o Assist with driving for summer courses
● Residential (RA)
o Create a welcoming atmosphere for all students
o Assist with check-in and check-out procedures
o Enforce rules and assist students with residential issues
o Develop and lead recreational activities
o Act in a role similar to a residential advisor on university campuses
o Be on call 2 or 3 nights per week to assist with student needs
Required Qualifications
● Must have completed a minimum of 60 college credits, or be a recent graduate
● Ability to work independently
● Must be willing to work nights and weekends
● Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs
● CPR & First Aid certified – valid through August 2026
● Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (2 or fewer minor traffic violations in the last 2 years)

● 21 years or older
● Enjoy working with peers and being a leader
● Responsible and able to be a role model to peers
● Enjoys working in an outdoor educational environment
● Experience with social media and/or marketing
● Ability to actively seek guidance and learn from mentors (staff, supervisors, educators, and peers)
● Previous experience at the Chincoteague Bay Field Station
● Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe, etc.)
● Excellent writing and communication skills

Terms of service
● Dates: May 11, 2026 - August 8, 2026; Interns will work three of the four sessions with one 3-week session off. Interns will have the option to take a class during their session off.
