Position Title: Farmer Advocacy & Policy Intern
Position Status: Internship, Part-Time   
Location: Hybrid, Washington, D.C.
This internship will operate remotely with occasional in-person D.C. meetings if able.
Pay: The internship will cover 150 working hours at a rate of $15/hour for undergraduate students and $18/hour for graduate students. Please specify your work hours of availability in your cover letter.  

 Core Responsibilities

OFA is seeking an intern for the Spring Semester who can learn all aspects of operations and practice at our advocacy organization. The intern will report primarily to Lily Hawkins, Policy Director.  Primary responsibilities may include:

  • Reviewing and coding organic farmer policy proposals from our national grassroots policy development process

  • Supporting logistics for an in-person lobby day and policy committee meeting in Washington, D.C. (First Full Week of March)

  • Researching organic issues and topics and providing reports that inform policy work

  • Writing 1-2 articles for Organic Voice, OFA’s quarterly digital magazine.   One summarizing the lobby day, one focusing on a topic of interest to farmers interested in organic, farmers transitioning to organic, or farmers newly certified organic.

  • Researching and preparing written comments for the National Organic Standards Board

  • Attending policy committee meetings with organic farmer leaders (virtual & possibly one-day in person)
