The Center for Watershed Protection (CWP) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Fulton, MD and is seeking a recent high school graduate or qualified student or recent graduate from an environmental studies program for an internship position. The paid internship provides an opportunity for students or recent graduates in an environmental field to gain hands-on project work experience with a national non-profit organization, while further developing their skills and interests in the environmental field.
CWP works to advance clean water resources and healthy ecosystems through responsible land and water management. Internship Description:
CWP is looking for a qualified and motivated student or recent graduate to work on a wide variety of CWP projects in a fast-paced but collegial environment. Exact start and end dates of the position are flexible but generally run from late May though mid-August. This is a mostly virtual position; however, the candidate should be located within driving distance to the CWP office (Fulton, MD) as occasional travel to the office is needed to facilitate communication and efficient work progress. The specific schedule, tasks and responsibilities will be determined based on project needs and the education and skills of the selected applicant. The Intern position is part-time with compensation ranging from $15-$20/hr. Depending on interest and availability, this position may be expanded to full-time.
Examples of Intern Responsibilities:
- Performing GIS mapping and analysis
- Conducting field work
- Writing technical plans and reports related to watershed planning and stormwater management
- Conducting codes and ordinances reviews
- Conducting literature reviews and research on watershed and stormwater
- Assisting with technical trainings
- Assisting with meeting facilitation and notetaking
- Data analysis
- Creating outreach materials in Canva
- Online library maintenance
- Assist with social media and communications
- Assist with CAD designs and calculations for stormwater management practices
- Assist with tracking, documentation, and reporting for training programs
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include:
- Recent high school graduate, college student or recent college graduate
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly, master new skills and work in a team environment
- Interest and/or experience in one or more of the following: natural resource management, watershed management, water quality, flood control, and environmental compliance and permitting
- Able to lift light to heavy objects up to 50 lbs and work in all weather conditions
- Driver’s license
Preferred qualifications include:
- Demonstrated computer skills (e.g., GIS, data management applications, CAD)
